The Sri Maha Bodhi Tree is very large and very old—at more than 2,000 years old, it is believed to be the oldest known tree planted by human hand, and the oldest historically authenticated tree in the world.
We received a sapling of this Bodhi Tree on 14th October 2023 and it will be planted in the BSCC grounds along with another Bodhi Tree sapling from India. Planting the Bodhi tree demonstrates and reminds us to reflect upon how the presence of the Buddha is still alive in our world today.
Before bringing the sapling to the BSCC, it was taken to the Eight Sacred Places in Anuradhapura for blessings.
The Bodhi tree came a long way from Sri Maha Bodhi and it will surely flourish for many, many, many years to come along with the Buddha Shrawaka Caring Centre.
